Nasi uduk is just like nasi lemak. Recipe is ordinary and easy. But the essence and feeling is unique when someone spend so much time and heart to prepare.
But when the time comes that a man has had his dinner, then the true man comes to the surface. - Mark Twain

Reunion dinner 2013
Impossible is nothing.
Never thought a home cooked dinner can be presented like that. At least I never seen any like that in my family thus far.
The presentation? Awesome!
The taste? Still some area to improve.
The passion? No words can be described.

Home cooked nasi uduk.
Nasi uduk is similar to nasi lemak, the famous coconut rice in Malaysia. It has rich coconut flavor with few additional spices make it slightly different from nasi lemak.
Nasi uduk does not serve with "ikan bilis" and "kacang"; which is fried anchovies and peanuts. It is normally serve with local dishes.
Not very difficult to prepare.
We like it because it link us back to Malaysia, for our taste espect.

How we start our 2013.
"My friends were having fine dinner last night for their new year eve celebration... " she said looking at her Facebook.
"..."
"Do you think we should do something?"
"Well, at least we were awake last night until 1am, seeing people here burning their money." I said.
Our neighborhood just kept lighting up fire crackers non stop for hours.
"So, what do you think?"
Our home cooked dinner for 2013 celebration. Pan fried salmon on butter, baked giant mushroom with cheese and fried spaghetti curry flavor.
We choose not to eat outside to avoid our little devils' demolition act. But still, 5 minutes after the picture taken, we had to swallow every bit and pieces in no time while listening Leighren screaming.
I am sure all parents know exactly what we are going through.

Home cooked fried rice.
Practice makes perfect.
Still remember when she first cooked. Always out of my imagination can take. I can felt her heart in the dish. But the taste just blown me away.
Her skills has been improved dramatically. And it took her only 3 months.
Maybe she need to impress her little prince everyday. Or she just do have talent.
I can still feel her heart in her food. And it will still blow me away, in a good way.

Home Cooked Food
"Dear, what do you want to eat this week?" Wife asked one day.
"KFC?" My automatic reply, without a thought, as always.
"I mean what you want me to cook for you la..."
"Oh! ... Oh?!" I was thinking are you sure? Or should it be "what you want to cook for me?"
"Tim Xun Kai (sweet sour chicken), Fu Yu Yao Mak (fermented bean curd vegetable) and a soup of the day." I replied.
"Wow!" was her reaction.
I laughed.
"It's not that easy to feed me, my dear, after all I am Mark's Makan you know." I made a challenge to her and continue my smile.
*****
Few days later, we had our home cooked dinner served perfectly.
Nothing is impossible, I believe now.

Merdeka Open House - Mee & My Malaysia
Babe_KL has been organizing Merdeka Open House many times and I did nothing every time.
Well, this year's theme is a little easy and I have something very very special to share.
I call my noodle as Tham Mee, my family noodle (Huey name it, after she heard my history). It's not Mark's Mee because it was inherited by my passed away father.
My dad was the first to cook it and serve us when we were kids. We loved it until we could eat it for every breakfast.
Mom continued the tradition and prepared it pretty frequent for us during those school days.
Even until now, my house will always ready for the 4 ingredients in case we suddenly miss the taste.
The noodle is simple and easy to prepare yet extremely tasty for all children and adult. As simple as cooking instant noodle but matching any Maggi Mee goreng out there.

Homemade Charkui
First of all, let's clear all the potential confusion first. I am not the one responsible for the dish. I am just an accidentally camera man happen to be there being served for the food.
The Charkui was 100% homemade by my aunty in Kuantan during our visit months ago. The taste close to the one selling at road side, but the feel, of cause, totally different. This one was made only for us!

I think I will get the recipe and make it myself one day.

A DIY Afternoon.
People is confusing, unpredictable and inconsistent. We wish to have the hottest chick with us. But when our girl friend as sexy as Jessica Alba, we are worry and hope others not notice her at all.
Most of the time, we love to be served. We prepare to pay the sky and demand to be served like a king. "How I wish when I open my eye in the morning, breakfast is ready to feed." I used to hear this often. I also came across a phrase in a cooking program: "If you can cook a hot breakfast for her after the night, you will have her heart for life."
But sometimes, we like to do it ourselves. The one who cook breakfast not necessary the one who is giving. And the one who is eating not necessary is the receiver.
"Do it yourself" let us have the ownership. We will joy for the creation and result off our hands. We cannot complain neither if it end up belongs to the drains.
A DIY afternoon for Popiah. A happy afternoon for all.

Somewhere end of last year when I went back to hometown, aunty prepared us popiah DIY style. Its easy for her not to crack her head for the dinner dishes and fun for us to have it our way. Picture showing cooked vegetables like sengkuang, tauge, egg slice, etc on the table. It took hours to prepare those, waiting each of us to give a final touch for our own food.

Tauge is sweet and give the crunchy bite to the popiah.
