PappaCafe (PappaRich) @ Puchong

It was originally called PappaCafe but now they are calling themselves as PappaRich, after the first successful outlet in Bandar Puteri Puchong.

I was there during their very first opening. I am kind of Puchong "lang" hanging the area all the time.

Oh! Don't ask me why I wait until it changes it name only I post this up. At least I post, right?

To be frank, I did not get impressed with the place during my first visit. I was comparing it with Old Town and I thought "Whoa! This is expensive." when I got the bill.

But I keep seeing full house happening there. I thought again "There must be lots of rich people in Puchong these day."

And then when I saw one PappaRich opening in Taipan USJ. I was wondering who the pirate again Xeroxing some other's idea. Don't you sense any familiar with Old Town and Old Taste? And plenty Old and Town kopitiam around you?

Patron again, PappaRich finally gave me the kind of feel and different atmosphere. It's kind of a mixture of Starbuck and Old Town. I enjoy the warm and relax feeling. The food served also careful crafted.

Suddenly I felt it worth every penny out from my pocket.

No wonder people keep going back and the brand grow from PappaCafe to PappaRich "liao".

Steamboat @ Puchong.

Had a chat with a Malaysian buddy in Shanghai regarding recent political scenario here.

He was saying even if there is big change come this September 16, the rakyat can only hope for a better tomorrow but cannot be certain for a better future.

I was thinking...

We live life because of hope.

We hope for promotion and better increment so we work hard each day.
We hope to be taken care of so we taking care of our young.
We hope to be loved so we search for love.

A person will only kill himself when there is no more hope.
A person kill because of hope.

*****

There is fierce competition in food service industry nowadays. Restaurant hope to gain the market by cracking up new ideas.

Steamboat boil with gas is common. But steamboat cook with charcoal is something special.

It's a gimmick? But it works. And the shop has been around for awhile already.

It's a charcoal stove! No gas require.

Restaurent Min Xian @ Puteri Puchong

2 ++ years ago, somewhere in KL...

"There is one very special Char Kuay Tiew in Segamat." The very excited girl told me, when we had our "ordinary" Char Kuay Tiew.

" ... " I have no idea what she was talking about.

"Don't you wanna ask me how special my Char Kuay Tiew is?"

"How special can it be? Lobster meat instead of tiny prawn?" I asked in my heart. But, as a good actor, I politely asked her back :"Is it out of any ordinary?"

"Well, I am not telling you until you bring me there." She gave me an inscrutable smile.

I knew it! What the F un.

*****

2 weeks ago, in Puchong...

"What so special about the Char Kuay Tiew here?" She ask with her eye wide open when I brought her to this heavily Chinese decorated restaurant.

"Something different, out of ordinary." I smile, confident I will bring her something special.

When the plate served. I saw her eye laughing at me. Something not right.

"Ceh! This is the moonlight Char Kuey Tiew I was eating since baby time. And it certainly not original compare to the one in Segamat."

What the F un.

This is the legendary moonlight Char Kuay Tiew.

Prawn noodle soup.

Khor Family @ Puteri Puchong

A house tell us the person who live inside.

When we walk into a cave, we are afraid of bears, tigers or bats. When we see trees, we are expecting monkeys, birds or snakes.

So, what do you expect to see in your partner's room?

*****

"Xu Jia" or Khor Family at Bandar Puteri Puchong is a family kitchen. Father and son do the cooking and mum do the guesting. Err... not like a typical family arrangement? Well, men do cook well, don't they?

Since it's a family kitchen, the decoration also unique. The "dining hall" is woody, green and orange in color. Difficult to elaborate, but it makes you feel a little like visiting a person house, just a little bit.

This is their signature dish. Bitter gourd fried kuey teow. Surprisingly good taste!

Special fried bee hun.

Another signature drinks: crush ice cincau lime with mixed fruits. Refreshing!

Taiwan Food at Puchong

One of my wish list is to go Taiwan for its food. I have heard so much about Taiwan snack. The people there are so creative and adventurous.

Trying Taiwan food (or pirated Taiwan food) here is painful. Especially when you have no experience on the "original" taste. It spoil all your fantasy.

I hope it is "really" difference from the native Taiwan snack.

Match'Us @ Puchong

Bandar Puteri Puchong opening another good eatery place with creative name: Match Us.

Mushroom soup was not bad.

Coke fried chicken wings taste special.

Chicken chop was well garnished.

Cakes was okay... only.

And their signature drinks chocolate blended with real choco at the glass as deco.

Tian Yew @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Another new venture in Bandar Puteri Puchong, another new food hunt for me.

Restaurant Tian Yew in Bandar Puteri Puchong, open at those new shop lots near DHL. A rather "healthy" Hakka signature food serving.

I personally not a fan of "Lui Cha" 客家擂茶 as I thought the soup taste a bit strange. Very green it taste. I felt like a cow drinking vegetable juice.

Anyhow, Huey love it very much and I had other dishes to test also. So, there we went.

Vegetable, vegetable and vegetable... I believe it is good for certain people and it sure feel healthy, provided they wash off all those pesticide before cooking. 客家擂茶

Fried SangMin was quite nice. It fit my tongue very well.

This is another Hakka signature food, call abacus 算盘子. Sticky yam pieces cooked with peanuts and mushroom. The abacus has sandy texture but full with yam flavor. So, if you love yam, should try.

Mei Keng @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

After raining day, there are lots of good and pretty mushroom growing fast and healthy. There will be also skinny and not pretty one stuck in between.

Of cause we will pick the best. Those left over will slowly die off and back to the soil.

Bandar Puteri is currently mushrooming of restaurants. Some serving very good food, but most just want to try luck in the area.

Trying new food is like hunting to me. Never know what pray will I get. Sometime after I ate a "normal" food, I struggle to speak it out. It is not our aim to talk bad about people. We are generally very kind and love to only praise.

I choose not to say much about this Mei Keng. Let just say that one fine Sunday morning after I dropped by and had a simple breakfast, I felt no spark.

Dry curry noodle.

Fish head beehun.

Low Maji @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Food business in Klang Valley is booming. We can see restaurent and eatery shops mushrooming everywhere. In new developed commercial area, we can see more than 50% of the shops open to serve food. Some just a simple food court, but most had been carefully renovated with unique branding in mind.

I guess one of the reason for this trend is everybody thought food business is cash business. You buy material with credit but you sell in cash. No collection or debtors issues. Further to that, Malaysian do love eating. Eating has become our culture.

But with such fierce competition, how can one stand out and attract the crowd? And the main survivor of a business is repurchase from existing customer. So, things still come back to the fundamental: the quality of food serve. Yes, the food can be unique and nicely decorated. But if it taste like garbage, it will only ment for the rats.

This Low Maji shop has very nice design and concept. Their Malak stemboat is rather unique. I like the stock soup's taste and the way it serve. But choices of dish and freshness of the seafood need to be improve.

Overall, it is worth for a try to experience a buffet steamboat that really can numb your tongue and mouth.

Well presented food, but limited choice.

If the freshness of those seafood can be improved, it will be even better.

I like the soup. The normal herb soup gave me a very healthy feeling. While the Malak red chilli pepper herb soup really numb my tongue and mouth. Strange experience for the mouth and stomarch.

Lao Ma Zhi @ Bandar Puteri Puchong, just beside Giant hypermarket and Citibank.

New Food Court in Putri Mart

"Wei...? What you wanna eat tonight?" I picked up the phone immediately drove passing out the factory gate.

This is the usual opening of our conversation. It is perfectly well suited to us as we believe after filling up our stomach, our brain will work better for the night.

"I will bring you to a new place. I accidentally found it today!" She said eagerly.

"Really? Good or not?"

"How can I know?! I just found it today."

"..."

"Not expensive one la... I know you. Value for money."

"Hey, I am not that kiam siap la..."

"You will be surprise!"

When I pressed the off button on my hand phone, I quickly clicked the search engine in my brain, scanning any image on "food+new+cheap+special+Puchong". Too bad, a window popped up stated: "No standard information containing all your search terms were found".

Tried to divert my curiosity, I switched on the radio and increased the volume. But unconsciously, my foot pressed harder on the pedal.

*****

The moment I saw Putri Mart in front of me, my brain freeze.

"Is this the one you mean? Hahaha... It open very recent, but I notice it already." I laughed.

"You do?! I thought it will give you a surprise. See, so huge! With so many food stalls inside. I am very excited!"

"....."

After pressing the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" and rebooted, thoughts quickly ran through my mind. Yes, this Nice To Eat Food Center in Putri Mart, Bandar Putri Puchong fit perfectly well in my search terms, and I did registered the image in my mind couple of days before. But why it did not pop up in my mind? There is only one reason: Woman, you ain't know what are they thinking!

Standard BBQ chicken wings. Can find in any store anywhere.

Stew duck was nice. I like the little lamp below. It helps my picture to looks better by steaming the gravy.

This is a glass of very unique apple water. Yes, apple water, not juice. perhaps that night there were only tiny little apples left in their fridge and the SOP stated that: blend 1 apple and add reasonable amount of water until the jumbo glass is full.

Mark goes... Vegetarian?!!

There was once I heard an old lady said she is practicing 30 days of vegetarian because of honoring her wish to God. I saw her will and felt her sense of determination. Weather she did that for her family or her own self, I am pretty sure someone out there must have touched.

Many years ago when I did my industrial training in Kepong, I had two vegetarian colleagues. I had every breakfast and lunch the vegetarian way for more than 3 months and it was such a heavy experience. They said that clear their body and calm the emotion down. I thought I was having some emotion problem then. Still remember my breath got chocked and heart stopped when I saw my mum cooked vegetables at home that time.

I am not against vegetarian and I strongly believe it is something really meaningful to do that. I might even be a full vegetarian one day. But of cause my friends will never believe that day will come for me.

Actually it is not a necessity for Buddhist to be a vegetarian. And I do think it is not very appropriate for a man to eat only vegetable because he has something looking forward for. Being a vegetarian because one seen the suffering of killing, feel the pain and sorrow. Vegetarian hope to reduce the pain and bring happiness for all beings.

Too ambitious statement? I read it somewhere and I truly believe that.

Buy hey, go tell a lion to eat carrot and prove Darwin's theory stupid then. Everyone has its own food to survive, and mine is chicken feet, bak kut teh and sotong.

As long as I don't waste my food and think of the poor and needs. I think I am still okay. Keep our mind simple and live this life the fullness!

This vegetarian restaurant situated at Subang Jaya, opposite Metropolitan College, across the main NPE road. Easy to find, nice food to eat.

Three dish in a plate. Normal for any formal course meal in Chinese. But those were all non-meat.

Tofu with mussels like mushroom. Not bad.

This is their famous dish, curry mutton. Its my favorite too! Strange that I did tasted mutton flavor in those cube. Very thick and creamy curry.

Oh! Its a fish, with the taste of fish derived from seaweed.

And this is something puzzle my head since long time ago. It's called roasted duck. But no matter how I look at it, I could not imagine any duck. I would just call it deep fried "fu jok", enough.

Picture taken a "real" vegetarian food. Sweet potato leaves in fermented tofu. Don't you think vegetarian should serve greens instead of imitation of fish, meat and duck?

Teluk Pulai branch in Puchong... Bak Kut Teh

The entire of Malaysia is full of Bak Kut Teh shops and stalls. People just love this unique and tasty local creation.

In Grandpa Bak Kut Teh, the origin of the delicacy been discussed. In Vege Bak Kut Teh, we see another creative piece of work derived from our grandpa grandma recipe. I also mentioned I love the side dish chicken feet in Ah Seng Bak Kut Teh. Now, I would like to share my love of rice in this Teluk Pulai Bak Kut Teh branch in Puchong.

We Asian love rice. When I asked my colleague, who is a "Mat Salleh" from OZ what is his favourite food in Malaysia. He said he see everybody here eat rice everyday, rice should be the most popular food here. That is also why KFC put rice in their menu lately.

But can you finish your dishes because of rice and not the other way round? Or can you keep adding rice while keep telling yourself this is the last bowl that day because of your diet concern? I did that in Teluk Pulai and that bowl of starch keep pulling me there. I just could not figure out how they cook it so nice.

Oh! Their meat bone soup also up to the standard.

They serve asam fish also. But I thought the taste was too strong and too hot and it mess up with the herb soup of Bak Kut Teh. Asam fish and Bak Kut Teh do not match well, for me.
