Bakmi Kepiting @ Mangga Besar

Kepiting means crab. Hence, this is dry noodle with crab meat topping.
Interesting fresh little crabby meat. But the noodle was not up to my expectation like the other bakmi around Jakarta.
Okay to try, but the price is not that cheap though.

2.8.13

Nasi Tim

Nasi tim is quite common among the Chinese community in Jakarta. I think the name derived from steam rice.

Pre cooked soy sauce chicken steamed together with the rice in metal bowl. Seller carrying in the back of their motorcycle. It then pack into plastic sheet in hot condition. Seems pretty safe to eat.

Some really tasty.

Mie Alip

Another noodle house, another nice Bakmi to eat.
Located around Kota area, it is quite pack during lunch hour.

Very few noodle house in Malaysia can compete with the texture and quality of any ordinary bakmi there.

Trust me, my final year project paper was evaluating yellow noodle quality, although many years ago.

15.7.13

Da Niang Sui Kiao

I think we should not be surprised when there is any typical authentic food found in any foreign city. In this current global village kind of world, moving people is as easy as moving information. Chinese is everywhere where there is human living.

However, we are rather surprised by the good taste and vary than the many Indonesian cuisine we were dining everyday.

I will missed this, for sure.

17.3.13

Nasi Uduk Ayam Goreng Lahap

This shop was always full house, but we found the rice just so so only.

The fragrance and aroma is too intense. I more prefer lighter and gentle taste.

Anyway, there seems hardly any bad food in Jakarta. Or maybe we had adjusted our preference already.

7.3.13

Central Mall Food Court

Food courts in the malls here are nothing different from other countries. The settings and presentations are pretty standard. It's hygienic with comfortable dining arrangement.

But of cause, there will be different in food served compare to other countries. Jawanese, Sundanese or Balinese food is common.

For me, I craved for Malaysia style. Lucky there is one stall serving my aim.

10.2.13

Reunion dinner 2013

Impossible is nothing.

Never thought a home cooked dinner can be presented like that. At least I never seen any like that in my family thus far.

The presentation? Awesome!

The taste? Still some area to improve.

The passion? No words can be described.

3.2.13

Nasi Uduk

Another Nasi Uduk I had.

Rice were cooked perfectly well. Rich coconut aroma with tasty spices. I had 2 portion, can't help it.

Pondok Parahyangan

Sundanese food, BBQ, deep fried, chili and lots of spices.

Friend brought us to Kelapa Gading area for this fantastic food.

I was amazed by the deep fried chicken. I thought the frying temperature was so high that all the meat and muscle were basically powderized. Texture was super soft and it kind of melt in my mouth.

Grill fish and deep fried petai were tasty too.

Also, have you ever eat grill rice? Nasi Bakar so they call.

I am more and more hook to local food already.

17.1.13

Little snack in Artha Gading Mall

Simple meeting in Artha Gading Mall.
Simple snacks with Gorengan and Ais Jeruk Kelapa.
People here really know how to fried stuff. Yummy delicious!

6.1.13

Home cooked nasi uduk.

Nasi uduk is similar to nasi lemak, the famous coconut rice in Malaysia. It has rich coconut flavor with few additional spices make it slightly different from nasi lemak.

Nasi uduk does not serve with "ikan bilis" and "kacang"; which is fried anchovies and peanuts. It is normally serve with local dishes.

Not very difficult to prepare.

We like it because it link us back to Malaysia, for our taste espect.

5.1.13

Bakmi ... Somewhere in Pasar Baru

Another bakmi, another taste.

People here really crazy about noodle. And they hunt for noodle. Strange, but true.

My friend took me to another stall.

For me, this one taste so so only la.

No offense, I just say what I meant.

2.1.13

Satay Babi

I never see anyone selling it in KL. We have satay ayam, satay kambing, satay daging, satay arnab and many other funny satay there, but never see people selling satay babi.

Maybe Chinese there only like to sell Charsiew and roasted pork because it is easier. No need to stand beside the heat all the time.

I don't know. But someone should start to think about it, seriously, satay babi serve good with Tiger.

Pak coming from Tangerang everyday to sell his famous and cheap satay babi.

A little less hygiene as he brought also flies together with his marinated satay. But after the burning, everything die.

At least my stomach is okay until now.

31.12.12

Bakmi Cincau

I am one of the noodle expert, at least in terms of academic qualification. My final year project was to evaluate the quality of yellow noodle based on different flour protein content, water alkalinity and microwaved pre-treatment. I am proud of it because I loves noodle.

And people here is REALLY fanatic about noodle. Bakmi is in every corner. No street burger, Roti Chanai, just Bakmi everywhere.

Bakmi is different from yellow noodle in Malay. Yellow noodle is precooked and coated with vegetable oil for longer storage. Bakmi is very similar to Hong Kong Wontan noodle, freshly uncooked.

What amazed me is noodle here all has very good texture. Never soggy, always chewy. People here knows how to make good noodle.

Today breakfast was green Cincau Bakmi. Freshly cooked in front of our house by an old man from Medan. He cycles his small cart around the neighborhood  No need to call for delivery. Just wave my hand when he passes by and cook for us right away. How convenient!

Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight

2012 is closing. Lot's of celebration for surviving the past 365 days. Lot's of review and rethink on our gains and misses. Lot's of plans and resolutions for the coming 365 days.

I say, let's go for some good food. We never know what is coming tomorrow. Life is full of surprise.

We noticed this restaurant in a Ranch Market nearby our place. Long time since we last have our Chinese together. Food tasted just like in KL and Singapore. Not superb still, but good enough for us to come back again.

29.12.12

Furama, Jakarta food Hong Kong Style

There is no different in every big city. Dense population, terrible traffic, pollution, and world variety of foods. Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, you name it.

I was invited to a year end dinner in this Chinese restaurant. Oh I do miss those so familiar food.

Not superb, but I just craved for it.
